How You Can Be An Urban Bridge Builder

Urban Bridge Builders is seeking individuals, committed to our mission, willing to serve on any of several committees key to developing both our organizational infrastructure and current and future programs.

You can join us in one of the following ways:

UBB Committees

+ Board Development

Develop the organizational structure of UBB’s Board and Board committees, and define Board-member roles

Immediate position needs: Treasurer, Secretary, Fundraising/Development Chair, Marketing Chair, and School Development Chair

Tasks: Create a board policy manual delineating member responsibilities and expectations

+ Communications/Marketing

Develop an organizational marketing plan and share the vision about Urban Bridge Builders

Tasks: maintain UBB website; design UBB tagline, brochures, etc.

+ Community Relations

Build relationships with local stakeholders and work with them to identify, assess and understand community assets and needs

Tasks: Assist in UBB’s community resource assessment study through data entry and coding survey responses; perform data analysis; write/edit research report; generate survey questionnaires

+ Fundraising Development

Develop an organizational business plan and fundraising strategy

Tasks: Research and identify potential donors; plan and execute fundraising events; write and submit grant proposals

+ Grassroots Research/Community Relations

Build relationships with local stakeholders  and work with them to identify, assess and understand community assets and needs

Tasks:  Data entry and coding survey responses; data analysis and writing/editing research report; generate survey questionnaires

Specific Program Opportunities:  Community Resource Assessment Study

+ Organizational Development

Design the UBB organizational framework and infrastructure, and establish a volunteer management system

Tasks: Assist in creating a business/strategy plan, develop a logic model/theory of change for UBB; develop a policy for UBB organizational evaluation and expansion; create a volunteer management policy; implement a volunteer recruitment strategy, design a volunteer orientation and training curriculum; assist in knowledge management

+ School Design/Development

Help find the location of and create the vision for the UBB school

Tasks: Assist in developing the budget, school manual, and curriculum for Pre-K through 8th grade; help select and hire the Head of the School; identify founding families; scout for potential school facilities

Specific Program Opportunities: Expectant Parent Program

Specific Programmatic Needs: New/Expectant Parent Program (EPP)

Currently, we need volunteers for our New/Expectant Parents Program launching in Summer 2010. You can help this program succeed by volunteering your time and/or resources. We aim to create a mixed tribe of mentors and volunteers, who will make at least a six-month commitment.

+ EPP Overview

Specifically, we are looking for parent mentors (1) at various life stages and (2) who have children in varying age groups (including toddlers, pre-teens, teens, and/or college plus). Additionally, we are seeking parents who have children with learning or developmental challenges, as well as parents who may have experienced the loss of a child due to death and/or abortion.

We also need volunteers with diverse skill sets, including, but not limited to medical, legal, grant-writing, administration, and event planning. Our mentors will work directly with parent participants, while volunteers will help to support the program’s administrative and professional needs.

+ EPP Specific Needs

Specifically, we are looking for:

  • 3 additional co-leaders to help oversee and shape program content
  • 4 to 8 Parent mentors
  • Volunteers
    • With specialized experience in any of the following areas, and who can provide a workshop overview for the participating parents: obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, child psychology/psychiatry, special education, early childhood education, nutrition;
    • At least 12 babysitters, ideally each committing to at least 2 Saturdays per year.
    • 2 individuals who can offer research and community-relations support by helping identify potential local partnering service providers to serve and meet the needs of participating parents
    • 2 individuals skilled in grant writing
